The weekend-the long version

Well, let’s start right before…like Thursday. L knows a little ditty that adds…1+1 is 2; 2+2 is 4; 4+4 is 8. He used to get stuck right there, but we taught him that 8+8 is 16. So he added that to his song. Me, thinking I am smarter than my 5 year old, says to him “L, what is 6 + 6?” I am actually thinking that he is just singing a song, but he is actually learning! He looks as me, pulls out his hand, and adds 6 + 6. “12” he says, looking at me like I am just a dork who has to ask a 5 year old how to add. And, the math continues throughout the weekend. Wooden rifles were purchased for the property. Dad mentions to our little mathematician that he only paid $8 for both. Lo says “Half of that is $4” Newsflash-division. OK, so I am stretching that a bit, but it is subtraction. He will be 6 in just over a week. Do 6 year olds subtract??

Now to D. In the canoe on Sunday, doing a little fishing. D just had to “do it myself, mommy” and I could not even TOUCH his fishing rod. (not that I wanted to let go of the sides of the canoe anyway). If I tried to help, squeals of protest were heard all across the lake. Then, after Dad had paddled us all the way to the other side of the lake, “I done, I want get out” “I get out now” “I done shifing” getting louder and louder a more insistent with each statement. (yes, he calld fish "shif", it's pretty cute, actually) Dad is so great and starts to paddle us back to the dock. Going as fast as he could. “I GET OUT NOW” echoes every 5 seconds or so as D is almost to fit-city. We get to shore & I get him out of the canoe. We get to the top of the little hill, and he stops and gets stiff; looks at me “I not pooping, mommy”. Oh. I guess he calls it something else?? Of course I did not bring a diaper along-I don’t know why. So, I am stuck walking around with a stinky kid until dad and Lo make it back. Wahoo!

Boogers. and Bees

Yeah- I said it. Boogers. More accurately: booger house. D was going down for his nap on Saturday (camping-FUN!) and he picked his nose. He shows me the booger and says "my booger" Thank you! Pointing to his nose "this my booger house". Too funny for words!!

All of this right on the heels of him getting stung by a wasp. He comes over after being in the "forest" and is rubbing his neck and screaming. I thought he maybe he stabbed himself in the neck with a branch or something. But when I looked-big ol' wasp. I slapped at it a few times and that f*&$% bee would not come off! Between the bee sting, the frantic look on my face and my smacking him-D was NOT a happy camper (sorry-no pun intended). I had to pry it off his neck - then worry. He had never been stung so I just watched him making sure he did not swell up. He quickly recovered and all was well. The welt was gone a short while later.

And, on the way home we had a flat tire. We could actually hear it coming out of the tire as we were driving down a gravel road. Thanks Uncle D for always having dad check the spare tire's air pressure. Stuck 2 hours from anywhere on a backroad for any amount of time would have been crummy. Thanks DAD for the quick tire change & the quiet ride home :)
